Beautiful souls, gone too soon. My heart hurts so deeply for these young lives lost senselessly. Our government failed our queer brothers and sisters by again failing to enact proper gun control laws and allowing strident gun lobby lemmings to set an immoral agenda. These are the consequences of fear-mongering and hate; these are the effects of "othering" Love triumphs. May your beautiful souls rest in peace. ๐ŸŒˆ

We got on this boat on a windy Mediterranean evening in 1989 in pursuit of our American Dream, not knowing what would find us on the other side. It has been a magical ride, mom. In your strength, I have found my own; in your embrace, I have found my happiness. Thank you, soul mate โค๏ธ

We are not a people who respond well to threats, you see. We have been slaughtered, we have been scattered; our very existence has been threatened. Our homeland is our source of breath and the manifestation of our sovereignty and survival. When our Nation-state is threatened, our survival is threatened, and with this threat we unite, we fight, and we triumph, because we are the sum of our triumphant parts, dispersed across the globe. Our strength is sourced in our motherland; a motherland that will always stand and thrive with the ashes and legacy of our forefathers spread across its soil....

Brought in 2015 in the streets of Havana, soaked by the Cuban tradition of pouring buckets of water off balconies to do away with the old, & bring in the new. Tonight, we pour out 2015. To a 2016 full of love, & love, & love.

Today, I lost an angel. At the tender age of 9, I had the life-altering privilege of meeting one of the most charismatic, brilliant, generous and loving women I have ever known. I met the woman who would be my next door neighbor for decades to come; the woman who would be like a second mom to me. I met Ellerine Harding. Since I was a little, Ellerine has been one of my staunchest advocates; uplifting me, loving me, supporting me, and reminding me to reach for the stars. Her impact has spanned some of the most vital years in my development--Ellerine's love & support gave my little self...

A little over a month ago, I argued to protect the due process rights of those subject to domestic violence throughout California. I am happy to share that today, we won a significant victory enforcing the due process rights of some of our most vulnerable litigants. The California Court of Appeal, in a published opinion, held that an individual seeking a restraining order against a batterer may not have a mutual restraining order issued against her without being given prior written notice, so she can adequately defend herself. Here is a link to the opinion: http://www.courts.ca.gov/opinio...
